Looking for a way to shake off the doldrums? Something that will put you in the holiday spirit? Something that’s a little different? And show your support for Christmas in the City while you’re at it?
From December 1st through December 26th, our friends at DMSE Sports – the race management professionals who, among other things, assist with the operations for the Boston Marathon – are hosting a virtual event: The DMSE Sports Merry-Thon.
The Merry-Thon is a 26-day challenge that will get you moving and get you thinking about others. Each day, participants pledge to complete at least a mile of some physical activity AND perform one act of kindness. DMSE Sports is, of course, all about running, but the physical activity can be a mile’s worth of whatever interests you: running, cycling, snow-shoeing, rowing, walking, swimming… The act of kindness can be anything from holding the door open for the next person, checking in with an elderly neighbor, or making a donation to Christmas in the City.
Making a donation isn’t a requirement of the Merry-Thon, but DMSE Sports is partnering with us, and directing donations our way. And Dave McGillivray’s Foundation – Dave is the DM in DMSE Sports – will match the first $2,500 in donations to DMSE! Many thanks to the folks at DMSE Sports. As most of you know, Jake Kennedy was a mighty marathoner – 37 Bostons! – so the connection with Dave McGillivray’s team is especially fitting! (And when it comes to Bostons, Dave’s no slouch either: he’s run 48 consecutive Boston’s, 32 at night, after his race-day duties were completed.)
This is a great way to make sure you keep moving, even as the weather gets colder, and to spread a bit of holiday comfort and joy, even in the midst of a pandemic.
You can sign up for the DMSE Sports Merry-Thon here.
And a big Christmas in the City THANK YOU to Dave, Matt, and Christina at DMSE Sports. We love the combination of running and Christmas in the City, and we know that Jake would, too. (It’s no accident that the colors on our logo are blue and yellow – a shout out to the Boston Marathon.)
