Planning for Christmas in the City 2022 is underway! Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor Covid can stop us from delivering holiday cheer to our neighbors this holiday season. Once again we won’t be having our traditional large party, but Christmas in the City will be delivered to homeless shelters all across Boston. We cannot do it without you! Please donate and volunteer to help spread cheer this coming winter and continue the 34-year-old tradition started by Jake and Sparky Kennedy.

Since 1989, bringing comfort & joy to Boston-area families experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Our Mission

Despite COVID, Our Mission Stays the Same! We’re a 100% volunteer organization devoted to helping Boston-area families experiencing homelessness and poverty. From our holiday extravaganza for thousands living in shelters, to “playing Santa” for others in need; from Thanksgiving and Halloween events to our annual job fair and year-round help for families transitioning from homelessness, we’ve always been there for those in need.

2022 Update
We are unable to host our traditional big party, but we will be bringing “comfort and joy” (gifts and a meal) to many families living in shelters through our CITC: Delivered program. We’ll also be providing Thanksgiving assistance through Thanksgiving In the City, and toys/gifts (children 16 and under) for families in need through Jake’s Toy Mania (formerly Monday Mania).

We're not quite fully back, but we're getting there!

100% goes to kids and families

We do 100% of everything with volunteers – 15-20 managing the mission year-round, and traditionally 2,500 for events – making sure that 100% goes to those we support. Many volunteers were once kids at the party and come back to give back. Our event volunteers return again and again, and many tell us it’s the best day of the year. In 2022, we will again be unable to host our big party, so our need for volunteers this year is limited. Please email if you have any questions.

I love helping families understand that no matter what life is throwing at you HOPE is not that far and can come in different shapes, forms and colors.
