CITC understands that not having a job can block families from escaping homelessness.
With this in mind, in 2016 CITC began running an annual job fair. CITC’s job fair is accessible, and we make sure that there are CORI-friendly companies participating. We also invite job seekers to practice their handshake and their pitch with our greeters, so job seekers already have one meet and greet down when they enter our job fair arena. At each of our job fairs, we have had 20+ companies – including hospitals, hotels, food services, and utilities – and employment resources have met with 100+ job seekers. And a number of those job seekers received job offers as a result.
Here’s what two of our 2018 participants had to say:
“This job fair was so fantastic. It is a great opportunity for the community; so value-added. This is giving back to the community. There were so any vendors, so much diversity. This catered to all levels of people.”
– Carmen Benjamin, MSW Candidate May 2020, Simmons University School of Social Work
“Most productive job fair, in terms of prospective students and networking with other agencies.”
– Marilyn B. Piket, Internship Placement and Development Specialist, Operation A.B.L.E. Inc.
