Job Fair

Some of our best ideas come from our volunteers, and the annual job fair we held from 2016-2019 is no exception. Volunteer Kara Morris organized our first Job Fair in 2016, and ran it each year – even while keeping up with the demands of law school.

A job fair designed for the community

Each fall, the Job Fair was held at the Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Community College. This is in the heart of an underserved community, and that was by design. We wanted the job fair to be accessible to all, especially those most in need of opportunities. We made sure that there are organizations representing many different industries, and offering jobs at all levels that open up career paths. We also made sure that there are CORI-friendly companies participating, and tell job seekers which employers are CORI-friendly and which are offering ESL positions.

It started with a practice meet and greet

When job seekers first came in, we invited them to practice their handshake and pitch with our greeters, volunteers – all with extensive work experience.  Confident that they have one meet and greet down, and that they’d worked out the kinks, our job seekers entered the hall, where they had the opportunity to meet with more than 35 different hiring organizations and job resources.
