Thanksgiving in the City – 2022

November 19, 2022

We did it!

On Saturday, November 19th, we held our annual Thanksgiving in the City event, where we helped nearly 300 families in need of a little something more on the table.

Led by the amazing Max, a cadre of volunteers made sure that these families were able to receive a much welcome gift card to Market Basket or Stop & Shop, as well as Thanksgiving dinner basics that included mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy, and a range of other pantry items to put on their shelves: pasta, peanut butter, tuna. We didn’t forget to make life a little sweeter, with boxes of corn, blueberry, apple cinnamon, and banana muffin mix, and some cake or brownie mix, as well.

We held daily registration from November 1st through November 15th, seven days a week, making sure we gave the families ample opportunity to sign up. On November 18th, we stocked the tables with the food Max had been bringing over throughout the month. And today, we were all ready for our guests.

Thanks to Max and her team who staffed the registration hours, stocked the “shelves”, shopped with the families, and cleaned up. We’re a proud 100% volunteer organization, so a big shout out to this year’s Thanksgiving in the City volunteers: Max, Abdi, Barbara, Edythe, Maesha, Maureen, Monica, Paul, Rolf, Shara, Soraya, and Tello. Thanks to all for a job well done.

Now, on to Christmas in the City’s December events:

  • Our December first fundraiser at the Seaport Hotel
  • CITC Delivered – gifts and a festive meal brought to hundreds of families (with nearly 1,000 children) who are living in Boston-area shelters
  • Jake’s Toy Mania, December 17 and 18, when families will “shop” for free for toys for their kids. (Registration for this even begins on November 28th.)

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our friends. Stay tuned for more news. There’s a lot going on at Christmas in the City.
