I feel fortunate to have met Jake & Sparky Kennedy and to have learned about the incredible work their 100% volunteer charity, Christmas in the City (CITC), does to help relieve the impacts of homelessness and poverty for families in Massachusetts. Each year, they put on the greatest Christmas party in Boston for thousands of homeless families and children – often the only Christmas these children will have. CITC’s work does not end at Christmas however, as they work tirelessly throughout the year assisting the homeless through their annual CITC Job Fair, Sponsor-a-Family and Thanksgiving in the City programs.
2018 marks 30 years since Jake & Sparky Kennedy started CITC. This April, they have given me the honor of running the 122nd Boston Marathon on behalf of CITC. Sure, many people run marathons, but this is a one-in-51-year event for me, and something I never in my life thought I could do. With Jake’s coaching, and a year’s preparation, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to both raise money for such a worthwhile charity and take on this personal challenge.
I work at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance in Boston. I’ve been an fitness enthusiast my entire life but never a serious runner. I come from a long lineage of non-runners! This marathon is a major challenge for me.
Please help me support the year-round efforts of CITC. My finishing time will likely not be impressive, but with your help, our impact can be. Thank you!
