Holiday Auction Fun at the Seaport Hotel

Christmas in the City volunteers really where a holiday auction was held to benefit Christmas in the City. I walked into see familiar and new faces drinking and laughing with three beautiful Christmas trees as the room’s centerpiece.

With over 100 guests, the reception area was comfortable yet full. People crowded around the raffle table for a chance to put tickets in a jar for coveted gifts. A night at the Seaport Hotel, Celtics tickets, gift certificates to Boston’s finest restaurants, massages, makeup, and more were to be raffled off at the end of the night. I made sure to buy a good number of tickets in hopes of walking out with one of the prizes!

The highlight of the night was the tree auction, and Santa added his helpful hand in the mix. The first tree was decorated by Julian Edelman and a signed football was an added gift. The next was decorated by Mayor Menino, leader of Boston for the past twenty years. An autographed “Boston Strong” t-shirt to go along with it reminded us of Boston pride and unity. The final was a Milan Lucic decorated tree, which was accompanied by a jersey signed by Number 17 himself. The lucky winners’ trees were covered in unique and beautiful ornaments and lights. Volunteers were to deliver the trees to winners’ homes, an added bonus.

The auction began, and the bidding wars ensued. It was clear that everyone in the room wanted to take one of those lovely trees home. A local award-winning fiddler offered an hour of music for the highest bidder.

It was a wonderful night. We mingled, drank, ate, laughed, and most importantly, gathered together to benefit a common cause. One of the truly magical aspects of CITC, besides the service it provides for children, is the community of volunteers that has been established. The money raised last Tuesday will directly go to the children we help. We expect to serve 14,000 children this year. Thank you to the Seaport Hotel for hosting such a wonderful event!
